| TIPPA Update: Announcing TIPPA’s First Midwest Chapter Meeting |
|
Following the annual conference in June, several of your colleagues requested help with facilitating a regional chapter meeting in the Midwest that would provide additional educational resources and networking opportunities during the months prior to the next annual conference. In response, the Midwest Chapter of TIPPA was established, and we are inviting you to attend the Chapter’s first meeting in Skokie, Illinois on January 26, 2007. Click here to view a copy of the meeting agenda.
The meeting’s primary goal is to address some of the most pressing topics facing publication planners on a day-to-day basis through open and interactive discussions. The session topics are designed to generate interaction and idea sharing with your industry colleagues, giving you practical solutions to share with your team. Through insightful discussions led by your industry colleagues, you will gain insight on such issues as:
- The elements of publication policy development
- Measuring the success of your publication plan
- The latest on results disclosure
- Overcoming the challenges of writing from clinical trials data
Complimenting TIPPA’s mission of fostering excellence in medical publications and communications within the biopharmaceutical industry, the Midwest Chapter’s initiatives serve as another resource of practical strategies for developing, implementing, and executing an effective publication and communication plan.
For our colleagues outside of the Midwest, we welcome your participation! If you are interested in forming a regional chapter, please contact us to discuss further.

| Preparation for the Annual Meeting |
|
While June seems an eternity away, especially for those of us gearing up for the cold winter months, preparation for the annual meeting has started. We will be heading to the West Coast once again and currently working on the final location and date. Once the venue and date have been confirmed, you’ll receive a ‘Save the Date’ email.
As the agenda is developing, we will enlist the Advisory Board for their input as well as contact many of you for direction on the topics and workshops to include in the program. Since TIPPA has grown to nearly 700 members, we won’t be able to reach out to each of you individually. However, as your input is essential for developing a program that meets your specific information needs, please forward any requests and suggestions to Hollie Murrin or call me directly at 630-790-9144.

| Webinar Update: Journal Selection and Publication Considerations Webinar Scheduled for December 5th |
|
Based on your feedback in the member survey, a series of webinars have been rolled out targeting the topics you listed as primary industry issues and concerns. The first event addressed the primary compliance issues facing publication planning professionals, with the second event offering guidance on how to translate the components of a publication plan to a global audience. Led by industry professionals, these online events are a great educational resource and provide you the opportunity to have your specific questions answered by experts.
The next webinar scheduled for December 5th will address the numerous considerations publication planners must consider during the journal selection process. The panel includes Kirby Lee from the University of California, San Francisco, whose study on the predictors of publication was reviewed at the annual conference. You’ll also hear from industry expert Dan Donovan and two leading journal editors─Logan G. Plaster from Emergency Physicians Monthly and Michael Berkwits of Annals of Internal Medicine. Discussions will cover the criteria to consider for journal selection, the impact of journal policy on CTRD postings, and post selection considerations.
